Many think that the Bible as a book only for “religious” people, but in all honestly, it is one of the most amazing books ever written and compiled for anyone to read.
Some facts about the Bible:
* Written by more than 40 authors.
* The authors of the Bible included Jews and non-Jews, kings, common people, scribes, soldiers, scholars, and uneducated people.
* Written over a period of 1500-1600 years (the first books were written in 1500 B.C. and the last book of the Bible was written around 95 A.D.)
* Translated into 2572+ different languages (from Wikipedia).
* Split into 66 different books. These are further separated into the Old Testament (39 books written before Christ) and the New Testament (27 books written after Christ came to the earth).
* The last words of the Bible are “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen”.
Despite the many different authors and the large span of time over which the Bible was written, the surprising thing is that all of the different books of the Bible fit together very well. The Bible begins in the first book, Genesis, by describing a garden with two trees (the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil) and a river (the River of Water of Life). These matters are mentioned or portrayed throughout the rest of the Bible and culminate in the last book, Revelation, where there is a glorious city where the evil tree, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil has been eradicated, but the Tree of Life is now flourishing on the sides of the River of Water of Life.
The subject matter of all the books of the Bible is Christ. The Old Testament focuses on prophesies concerning Christ and uses parables and pictures to describe who and what Christ is to all his believers. The New Testament contains more direct accounts of Christ’s earthly ministry and also a more direct description of all that Christ is (based a lot of the time on verses from the Old Testament).
For all these reasons, the Bible is an amazing book, and it is worth reading even if you don’t believe in the Christian faith. It is one of the most influential books that was ever written.
Many people love the Bible (myself included). In the times of the Roman Empire (before Constantine proclaimed “Chistianity” to be the new religion), the rulers (who were supposedly elected by the gods) felt threatened by Christians and their beliefs that God Himself is the only true ruler on the Earth. Therefore they persecuted the believers (throwing Christians into a Colesseum to battle it out with Lions) and tried to eradicate every copy of the Bible that was in existence. Unfortunately (for them. Not for us) many Christians loved the Bible more than they even loved their own lives, and the Bible somehow managed to survive the test of time.
Those who believe in Jesus Christ (myself included) consider the Bible to be the word of God, spoken through his chosen servants. Although this might seem mysterious or even mythical, considering the above facts, we believe that some sort of divine hand must have organized everything. But the real reason that we love the Bible and believe the things written in the Bible is because the subject of the Bible is the Lord Jesus, and through the Bible we come to know more about who the Lord is and what he has done (and is doing).
I have also compiled a list of my favorite verses from the Bible if you are interested.
